State Criminal Alien Assistance Program

SCAAP (State Criminal Alien Assistance Program) is a federal grant program under the Department of Homeland Security that is designed to reimburse local law enforcement agencies for the housing, feeding, and transporting of illegal aliens from the point of capture to the time of deportation. There is typically a 2 week window in the spring in which all qualifying agencies can apply for reimbursement. However, the data collection process usually begins in the summer so that everything is ready in time for when the window opens up.
